Shamrock Shuffle 2007

Wow, what an amazing day!!! I haven't run in over 2 weeks, and I thought it was not going to be a great race but I was wrong.

In the morning, I woke up with a slight hangover from the night before, but that was ok. Barb and I hooped in a cab with nicole and chris and made our way to the shuffle. After seeing some friends and making our way through the crowds, we lined up and waited for the shuffle. It was pretty uneventful. But it was spent in good company.

Well it took us a little over 10 minutes to cross the start line, but once we did, things for me went pretty smoothly. Here are my splits:
9:37
9:33
10:16
11:11
9:32
Average 10:02 pace

After i crossed, I kissed barb good luck and I went on my way. The first mile was typical. Before mile 2, when I saw the TNT road crew, I cheered for the team and accidently hit a girl in the face with my hand. Opps sorry! I felt really bad, luckily she was ok.

Next, I went through a pretty poorly put together and dirty water station. It was gross. After the water station, I saw 2 familar tan faces cheering and holding signs in two different places. It was Leah and Jason. You kids rock! You both can play wii at our place anytime.

I was happy because I basically ran throughout the entire race except for a quick walk during mile 4. Right when I got to the bottom of the hill at Roosevelt, I got bad flash backs of pain from the marathon. But I ran my way up it and right when I got to the top of the hill I checked my watch and saw that I could get under 50 minutes. So i booked it to the finish line swirving through many people, but finally being slowed down by a lady who was pretending to be an airplane. And with the rest of the crowds around me, I missed 49:59 by 7 seconds. But I am not complaining, I am pretty excited about my new PR. Not bad for someone who hasn't run in 2 weeks.

After the race nicole was able to find me trying to get water. We then went to our meet up place and was met by barb, leah and jason. Christine got herself lost, which really didn't surprise me. Once we were all together we made our way back to get ourselves cleaned up. During shower time, I think leah and jason made a new bestfriend with our Wii. Once we were all ready, we made our way to "Rocket" for what I believe to be one of the best brunches in the city of chicago. I love their bloody mary bar.

Yay for good days with good company!

Congrats to: Barb, chris, ta, jacob, josh, bob, nicole, suzy, josh, natalie (sorry if i'm forgetting anyone) on a rock star race!!!

great job! Trying to picture your face scrunched up with frustration as airplane lady zooms in and out in front of your 49:59.

Glad you got a PR and had fun!
